General Tips About Makeup

Ever get overwhelmed with how much makeup is out there? I know I do! There are so many brands, which one is the best? There are so many colors, which ones suit my skin tone and personality? There are so many textures, which one is best for my skin type? There are so many questions to ask and usually not enough answers for those questions.

Some of the top makeup brands include Nars, Laura Mercier, Bobby Brown, AVON, Benefit, Estee Lauder, M.A.C., Maybelline, Lancome. Laura Mercier and Bobby Brown may be pricey, but they have a very wide variety in tones and shade. You are more likely to find products (at least when it comes to foundation) that suit your skin color when it comes to these brands. If you are looking to save some bucks, then brands like AVON, Maybelline, and any other brand you can find at a drugstore (Milani, N.Y.C., CoverGirl, Revlon, Almay, Jessie's Girl, Rimmel, etc.) are the way to go. Mind you, you may be able to buy more in quantity with cheaper priced brands, but keep in mind that you may be missing out on better quality.

When it comes to finding the colors that suit you, that takes time and patience. Rule of thumb, if you have fair skin, dark colors on the eyes will add years to your face as well as make your eyes appear smaller. If you have a very dark complexion, pastel colors could potentially look too powdery on you. If you like pastel colors, go with a creamy formula. M.A.C. is famous for having a huge variety of colors to choose from. They also use synthetic dyes that may not be so healthy for your skin. Usually where there is a 'pro' there will be a 'con'.

When it comes to the different textures of makeup, it is a must to know your skin type! One way to find out what type of skin you have is to get a skin analysis by a licensed esthetician. I have heard that some select Sephora locations also perform the skin analysis procedure. Mineral makeup is nice for all skin types, with a buildable capability, going from sheer to full coverage with just a few sweeps of your powder brush. The minerals are healthy for you skin too! Keep in mind though that not all brands are genuine and have your best interests at heart. Some mineral makeup brands don't use real minerals all the time. Do your research, especially when it comes to ingredients! If you have oily and/or uneven skin, try to avoid foundations with a dewy finish. The dewy finish will add to your oily look as well as accentuate the uneveness in your skin.

I know this was really general post, but I hope it was helpful. I will write more indepth and helpful blog posts in the future. Don't get overwhelmed with all the makeup that is out there. Be patient, do your research, and keep a positive and optimistic attitude. Makeup is not a necessity of life. Just have fun with it!!

Scent of a Woman (K-Drama)

I never took the time to get into foreign dramas before until this past December. My cousin told me about Scent of a Woman, and I completely got hooked! This show is amazing!!! It only lasted for 16 episodes, but the actors were so talented and the store was so great! It will make you laugh, make you cry, and make you appreciate life to the fullest. The handsome leading man, played by Lee Dong Wook, will also motivate some people to watch *wink*. I wanted to share one of my favorite songs from the original sountrack, "Blue Bird" performed by Kim Ha Neul. Enjoy! And check out the show at www.viki.com!!

I found inspiration for this look from tarte for TrueBlood's Collector's Palette. The colors in that palette are simply amazing! The key to this look is BLENDING! Blend, blend, and blend some more. If you look at my already made-up eye, the eyeshadows were starting to crease because I did not blend properly before filming. I fixed it later on though lol. Also, I made my lips nude so that my eyes would look even more bold.

I hope you enjoy this look and this video! Thanks for tuning in!!

I DARE You to be Elegant

I dare you to be elegant. All of the eyeshadows from this look come from the Dare Eye Shadow Palette by Sigma Beauty. I am a relatively new customer of Sigma's products, but I am already in love!! I love their brushes! They feel so professional and work so well, and Sigma has such a wide variety to choose from! As for their eyeshadows, they took more time to grow onto me, but now that I've played around with them a bit, they are starting to become some of my favorites. I love that they come in palette format as well. I'm a sucker for palettes lol.

I wanted this look to be soft, with a hint of sheer elegance. I did not mention this in the video, but I feel using a pencil liner compared to liquid liners and some gel liners can give a softer appearance. Also, using the gold eye shadow in the inner corner of the eye helps to brighten the eyes while giving a more youthful appearance.

I hope you enjoy this look and this video! Thanks for tuning in!!

I named this look “Midnight Magic Eyes” because of the beautiful, yet intense navy blue shade I used. I achieved this look with tarte cosmetic's limited edition TRUEBLOOD collector's palette as well as Urban Decay's NAKED palette. This is look is great for a night out or maybe even a special event. This is the second look I am doing from the TRUEBLOOD palette (be expecting at least three more from this same palette). I love this palette because it contains such quality shadows that come in such amazing pigments. I also love the little built-in-drawer with its travel-size eye essentials! Two thumbs up to tarte cosmetics! I love them, and it helps that their products are paraben- and phthalate-free :)

Lions and Tigers and Acne, OH MY!!

Why does acne exist? I have no idea, but if you suffer from problem skin, then I know exactly what you are going through. I got my first pimple when I was 10 years old, and now, OVER A DECADE LATER, I am still breaking out!! I have tried so many products: ProActiv, Clearasil, Clean & Clear, AcneFree, hand soap, my own spit (which sounds gross, but my Daddy suggested it), mud masks, Biore, Neutragena, Apple Cider Vinegar, toothpaste... I'm sure there is more to add to this list, but you get the picture. All of those products just kept the acne at bay, with ProActiv actually making my skin worse! (It chemically burnt my skin because their dosage of benzoyl peroxide is way too high for people with sensitive skin. Just something to keep in mind.)

I am starting to think that there is no "cure" to acne. And with everyone adding their own unique biological composition to this phenomenon, I am not surprised that a "cure" has not been found.

What I really want to talk about though is Clenia Foaming Wash, a sulfacetamide sodium sulfur topical. I first used this product at the end of year 2007. At this point in my life, the skin on my face was breaking out with at least 14 pimples (on average) a month! On top of having these disgusting bumps where every one could see them, the skin surrounding each of them was RED!! Needless to say, I did not feel the best about how I looked back in those days. When I started using Clenia, after only 6 weeks, my average of 14 pimples a month went down to an average of 2 pimples a month, with those 2 pimples being smaller in size and not red in color. I only used it for a few months, and for some silly reason, I stopped using it. For at least a year and a half, I only had an average of 2 pimples a month, but my problem skin started getting more problematic again. All the redness and all the bumps back again to taunt me!!

I started using Clenia again a month ago. The redness in my cheeks is going away, majority of my pimples (along with the scars they left behind) are disappearing, and I am starting to feel good about my skin again. Though this product may not obliterate my acne forever, the fact that it has done so much for my skin makes me confidently support this product.

I got a prescription for my 6oz (170g) bottle from my doctor, and under my insurance, it was less than $20. I noticed that some websites are selling this product for hundreds of dollars. I hope that if you want to invest in this product that you realize there are cheaper options. Also, as for any product, so the body does not become immune, it is best to use this product in cycles (using the Clenia for 2-3 months at a time, with a 2 month break between each cycle of usage).

If literally nothing else has helped your problem skin, then you have nothing to lose, but rather everything to gain, if you use Clenia. I am not being paid or compensated in any way to promote this product. I just truly believe in its benefits. I wish you all the best of luck if you try out this product! I hope you love it as much as I do!!

Just Bitten with Icarus

Have you seen the commercial for Revlon's Just Bitten Lipstain, starring their celebrity spokesperson Jessica Biel? Well, if you have, then you would know that a pretty great sounding song was playing in the background. I found the song, and I feel like sharing it with all of you! The song is "Icarus" by White Hinterland. It's made up of smooth melodies and enchanting tones that can put you in a wonderful dream state. I'm sure the lipstain is very nice as well, but I'll have to get around to trying that out some other day lol. Anyways, here is my introduction of this great band, and I hope you enjoy the song!!

Bioastin - Astaxanthin

I recently just added some dietary supplements to my everyday food intake, and one of them just happens to be Bioastin. Have you ever heard of it? If you are a big enough fan of Dr. Oz, then you definitely have heard of it. He personally recommends it! Anyways, you are probably wondering what the heck it is and why the heck I am talking about it.

Bioastin has powerful antioxidant benefits. It is derived from Astaxanthin, an active ingredient in algae that protects the organism from sunlight. It is also a carotenoid, an ingredient found in some fruits and vegetables that gives them their orangy tint. Bioastin comes from microalgea farms in the pure ocean waters that surround Hawaii. It has been shown to be 550x's STRONGER THAN VITAMIN E and 10x's STRONGER THAN BETA-CAROTENE!!!

Here is a list of some of its benefits:

  • Joint Health
  • Healthy Tendons
  • Eye Health
  • Healthy Immune System Functions
  • Healthy Cardiovascular Health
  • Anti-Aging Through Cellular Health
  • Healthy Skin
  • Skin During Sun Exposure
  • A Healthy Oxidative Balance
  • Increased Energy Levels
  • The Body In Recovery From Exercise

Before I started taking Bioastin, I tested this product on my 13 year old dog (who will turn 14 next month). I've never used my dog as a guinea pig before! Please don't think I am the mad scientist type! I did my research, and experiments have shown increased activity levels in animals such as dogs and horses after they take Bioastin on a regular basis. My dog has more energy now than he did 2 years ago! I also read an account of someone who's acne cleared up after taking it. That was all the motivation I needed: something that will help me feel more energized and something that may help me with my problem skin!!

Bioastin is one of many amazing dietary supplements out there. Do your research, and start getting healthy people!!

I bought my supply of Bioastin from a health store. This product can also be bought online from various websites.

Not only am I a mark representative, but I wouldn't represent a company's products if I did not truly think they were worth it. Also, just because I am a representative, does not mean that I was sponsored or paid in any way to make this video. All the products used were bought with my own hard-earned money. I hope you take a closer look at these products, all available at http://www.mymarkstore.com/dchelliah mark makeup is good quality, affordable, and trendy! What's not to love? I was watching one of my fave beauty gurus (MakeupGeekTV) a couple weeks ago, and she had such a nice nail design! They were polka dots! But just on the tips lol. I could tell that she had gotten hers professionally done, but the way I figure it, if you are well and able and have the time to do the design at home, might as well! I try to do everything myself, as practice in order to get better and better at my skills. I can't wait until I start beautifying people professionally!!! ANYWAYS, I hope you enjoy this short and simple tutorial! Don't forget to "Like"!

For your supplies, you'll need a base coat, a black nail color, a white nail color, a top coat, toothpicks, and scotch tape. Watch the tutorial to see how it's done! :D

The Tenth September 11th

By divsstephrose · September 11, 2011

I was in seventh grade when a shift in the universe took place. I was in my Social Studies class when my teacher Mr. Hogans got a call. His expression turned stone cold as he pulled the television set to the front of the room and turned on the news. After a short state of confusion, the atmosphere in my classroom changed to shock and awe. When I saw the first plane hit the World Trade Center's North Tower, I knew without a doubt that this was an event that would change the world forever. Being born in New York, I took it as a personal offense when my city was being attacked. Though I moved away many years ago, I still take pride in the fact that I was born in one of the (if not the) most amazing cities in the world.

When the South Tower was hit, I started to cry and pray for all the people that were in the building at the time. The smoke, the fear, the sound of the bodies hitting cars or the pavement...I had never felt a sadness for others until I saw the souls who were jumping out of the windows on the top floors because they had no other way out...

It was not until later that day that I found out the Pentagon was hit, and another plane was redirected to a field in Pennsylvania.

Today I pray for all the people that died that day 10 years ago. I also pray for the friends and family that lost their loved ones. I pray that God bless them with comfort and strength and love, a love that may have been replaced by the hate that they felt and may still feel towards the ones that took away precious ones from them. I pray the God bless the United States of America.

Fear can lead to hate, and hate can lead to separation, segration, racism, death... Hate leads to many things that have made the world it is today. It will cause the end of this world someday. What we need more than ever is love, not love by a human's standards, but love from God's standard.

We will never forget what happened on September 11, 2001. WE WILL NEVER FORGET.

I love her and this album!!!

Ellie Goulding is an English singer/songwriter. I honestly don't know much about her yet, but I am already so in love with her album "Lights"! My sister introduced me to her a few weeks ago, and I have listened to at least one of her songs every day since lol. She has a great voice and a great sound. I think what else is refreshing is that all her songs don't completely focus on sex, drugs, and alcohol. It is just starting to annoy me that those three things seem to be the main themes of the songs that end up reaching #1 on the charts. People wonder why today's youth are the way that they are. Where should we really place the blame people? ANYWAYS, I hope you enjoy this song, "Starry Eyed," as much as I did!

Turmeric is Your Friend

turmeric powder and plant

Turmeric has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. Being of Indian ethnicity, I guess that should be no surprise. Indians have been using turmeric for over 2,500 years, and in that time, they have found a great many uses of this simple natural substance. My parents use turmeric in literally every curry they make. They not only clean meat with it, but they always add just a spoon or so to add extra flavor and color. For the longest time, my mother has been telling me to rub it onto my skin in order to lighten it and have a beautiful complexion (I wish I listened to her years ago!!). It is a common tradition to apply turmeric to a future bride in India because light skin is thought to be beautiful. There are so many benefits to be had! I will just list a few for you though.

  1. Skin bleaching agent
  2. Anti-Inflammatory
  3. Spice for flavoring
  4. Antiseptic/Antibacterial agent
  5. Natural liver detoxifier
  6. Natural pain-killer
  7. May aid in fat metabolism
  8. Shown to stop the growth of new blood vessels in tumors

Maybe chemicals are not always the way to go. Do you even know every single ingredient of every single product you ingest into and topically apply onto your body? Have you ever even thought about it? I feel the Earth was made the way it was for a reason. We don't have to go too far from nature to get everything we truly need.

If you have never heard of Hautelook, then make it your priority! I am not being paid or compensated in any way to promote, I just really support their website.

Hautelook is place where tons of companies (clothes, makeup, accessories, vacation planning, etc.) post sales and once-in-a-life time deals/discounts. Each sale only last for a few days max! With limited time and a limited amount of products, you should take advantage while you have the chance! It is also FREE to join! Get daily emails to know that day's sales and events, as well as upcoming sales and events.

Right now there is a sale on hosiery by Cynthia Rowley. Sale ends Saturday, September 10, 2011.

To be honest, I have never heard of Cynthia Rowley, until probably 20 minutes ago (LOL). Even so, I am already in love with what the brand has to offer. I have been in love with creative/unique-looking hosiery for a few years now. I haven't invested in too many of them though because I allowed silly people to tell me how to shop and what to wear. I owe it to all those silly nay-sayers for me hating to shop with other people (unless they are the ones spending money on me lol). ANYWAYS, I have already chosen a few of favorites. Tell me if you like, and don't forget to check out Hautelook! I promise, you will fall in love too <3

These seem elegant and regal, with their lace-like finish.

These would kinda feel like poison ivy. Love the floral!

With these, I wouldn't have to get tattoos! Beautiful

I would feel exactly like Mystique in these!!

Color-Blocked Nail Design

I have been reading my InStyle magazines a lot (I absolutely LOVE them!) and I remember coming across mention of color-blocking when it comes to styling outfits. So I figured, why not make a nail design using the same concept? It is a super easy design that anyone and everyone can do. You'll need a base coat, 3 or more different-colored stripers, and a top coat. Basically all you need to is paint random shapes, while making sure each color has its distinct space on the nail. As time goes on, I am determined to come up with more complex and creative designs. I won't make them so complex that no one else can do them though! I want to share my skills and thoughts, not brag about them. Anyways, I hope you enjoy this tutorial. There are plenty more to come!

There are many new products at mark this summer. Check out the new Ibiza collection!

What makes for a good makeup collection but an innovative lipgloss! mark is always on their game when it comes to having the latest trends in fashion and color. Having quality products at reasonable prices is good to note as well *wink*

mark Ibiza Sol Marbelized Lip Gloss is made with swirls of two ultra-high shine, shimmery shades of lip gloss. With three well-named shades (Bonita Pink, Chica Coral, and Hola Bronze), one does not have to be limited to a one shade because all three shades look fabulous on any skin tone!

I have only tried Chica Coral so far. As far as my honest opinion goes, I think it is favorable. It did not look tacky against my milk-chocolate-colored skin and the moisture lasted for 3 or so hours. I give this lip gloss a 7 1/2.

Has anyone else tried it? Comment and give your honest opinion. Also, thanks for checking out my blog! Keep checking in! XOXO
